What is Experience Design?

Sometimes referred to as "Ux" or "XD" design, Experience Design is the practice of designing products, systems and processes with a focus on the quality of the user's experience.

Experience Design is not about branding or technology. It is a user-centered approach that explores the perceptual (emotions, beliefs and preferences), practical (functionality, ease-of-use, efficiency) and environmental (physical, social, temporal) design considerations at the points at which people interact with each other* through complex systems.

Drawing on a number of related disciplines including graphic communications, information architecture, interaction design, usability and even human psychology, Experience Design requires a detailed understanding of users and the tasks they need to complete. It can be used to identify communication problems and generate new, more efficient ways of working making it an invaluable business development and marketing tool.
